Privacy policy

Last updated: 5 October 2026

This policy explains what personal information When to Swim ("we") collects when you use www.whentoswim.co.uk, why, and your rights under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Who we are

The data controller is Joshua Watson for Anfana Software. Contact: info@anfana.co.uk.

What we collect and why

  • Messages you send us (the Contact form and "Report a wrong time"): your message, and your name and email if you give them. We use these to reply and to correct the site. Lawful basis: legitimate interests (running an accurate site and answering you). Forms are delivered to our inbox by Web3Forms, which processes them for us.
  • Search by postcode: when you search a postcode, your browser sends only that postcode to postcodes.io (a free open-data service) to find its map position. We don't receive or store it.
  • "Use my location": your location is used only inside your browser to sort pools by distance. It is never sent to us or anyone else.
  • Technical data: our host, Cloudflare, processes IP addresses and request details to deliver the site and protect it from attacks.
  • Advertising: if you agree, Google AdSense uses cookies and similar technologies to show, personalise and measure ads. Lawful basis: your consent, which you can withdraw any time using "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

How long we keep it

We keep messages for up to 12 months, then delete them, unless we need them longer to deal with an ongoing issue.

Who we share it with

Only the service providers named above (Cloudflare, Web3Forms, Google if you consent to ads). Some of them may process data outside the UK under safeguards approved for UK GDPR, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the UK–US data bridge. We never sell your personal information.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict how we use it, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. Email info@anfana.co.uk and we'll reply within one month.

If you're unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113.

Children

This site is for a general audience. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes

If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top of this page.
